Random tid bits

So my big new for this week is that I saw the sun. Yes, I know that doesn't sound like such a huge deal, but it is. I've gotten use to that thing that the sun does, you know, where it's near the middle of the sky at noon? Yeah. It doesn't do that here, kind of goes off to the side. Anyway, the sun has been MIA for almost a week and I was getting a tab bit worried. Luckily for all human life, it's still there. Also, it just rained and hailed really hard for about 5 minutes and now it's sunny outside, I feel like I never left Kansas.

Two more bits; firstly, I would like to warn everyone that knows me that I will probably have gained weight by the time I come back. I've been here two weeks and I eat like all the food is going to disappear. Don't get me wrong, I've always wanted to be a few pounds heavier, but I might actually gain that freshman 15. Hopefully, I won't come back pudgy, otherwise I have an inkling that my roommate Stephan will make me do his ROTC work outs.

Last bit; Literature. Last night I got into an argument with an English major. Surprisingly enough it was about the Twilight series, he was defending it, I was not. Essentially, his points were that it was a good book, a great love story, well written, culturally relevant and that the main character was spot on. I will be honest, I read the first book all the way through, I started thinking I wasn't going to like it, I finished it not liking it. My points were as followed, I did not like the main character (found her annoying and intensely stupid), did not think it was a well written book, felt like a majority of the popularity was tapping into girls wanting to read about a sexy vampire and finally, that vampires have no aversion to sun light in the novel, no they don't catch flames, they sparkle. Yeah. I don't mind that it doesn't follow the central vampire myth, I've enjoyed other books/movies that variate, such as I am Legend (book, not the movie), Vampire Hunter D(movie), or Blood Sucking Fiends (book) but a sparkly vampire just sort of ruins it for me. Vampires have generally been vicious, blood-thirsty, or just a little fucking scary (at least a bit). I just find it hard to grip, it's just too damn cute. ok, I'm done.

Uh, it's sunny again...

  1. okay, what that was supposed to say was you should go see "Let the right one in" to make yourself feel better about teeny bopper vampire love. It's by the Swedes, apparently the authorities on such things.

    love you little bro

  2. First off, just catching up on ye olde blog. Also while i will admit this to nobody in person, i've read twilight as well, and its not particularly well written at all. I think it falls in to the same category as eragon, aka well distributed fan fiction. Its mediocre writing with a cliched story. However it sells because it uses these cliches to tap into those young girl fantasies about finding that guy or whatever. Anyways, lets think about this, Edward in the novel may be physically 17 but if you think a person who lives over 100 years doesn't mature mentally in that time, then your crazy. So somebody who is comparatively mentally 108 falling for a 17 year old girl.... creeepy. Miss you buddy.
